According to an Information Security Oversight Office report (via the Reason Hit and Run blog), the Executive Branch of the federal government spent over $7 billion (yes, with a 'b') to keep government information away from you. This does not include the CIA budget, which is classified.1995 = $2.7 Billion
1996 = $2.6 Billion
1997 = $3.4 Billion
1998 = $3.6 Billion
1999 = $3.8 Billion
2000 = $4.3 Billion
2001 = $4.7 Billion
2002 = $5.7 Billion
2003 = $6.5 Billion
2004 = $7.2 Billion
